On Monday, Waco Police detectives arrested a suspect on a theft charge after posting surveillance video of the incident on their Facebook page.

On July 18 at 6:40 p.m., police said Jon Paul Saunders loaded a computer worth $649 in a shopping cart at the Walmart located on Franklin Avenue and left the store without paying for it.

"They try to stop him. He ran across the parking lot, got into a car and fled,” Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton said.

The surveillance video posted last week is no longer on the Waco Neighborhood Detectives Facebook page, but Saunders' mugshot and information about his arrest was posted on Tuesday.

"Fortunately good detective work was able to identify that individual. We got a warrant for him and he has been arrested," Swanton said.

Saunders faces theft charges for this crime and two others in Waco that occurred on July 20.

According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant obtained by News Channel 25, Saunders stole an iPhone 6S Plus worth $749 from a Metro PCS store located in the 4300 block of West Waco Drive. Another affidavit for an arrest warrant states he stole clothing worth nearly $90 at the Gander Mountain located in the 2700 of Jack Kultgen Expressway.

"We've stopped him numerous times. He has caused a lot of problems in our area with our businesses, panhandling, harassing people, our citizens. But we can't get rid of the guy,” Swanton said.

According to Swanton, Saunders who is not from Waco and is believed to be homeless is facing charges in another state.

"This individual is wanted out of Washington State on a burglary charge. However, they won't extradite him back,” Swanton said. “He is causing havoc in our city and we want to make sure citizens are aware of him.

As of Tuesday night, Saunders remained in the McLennan County Jail.
