WACO, Texas – Baylor volleyball was one of 132 NCAA Division I recipients of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced by the organization on Monday.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

Baylor joins Kansas State as the only two Big 12 schools that earned the Team Academic Award in 2015-16.

For the Bears, the 2015-16 award makes it three consecutive years earning the honor, with the five total selections in the program’s history all coming in the last six years.

Represented by divisions spanning from the highest level of the NCAA Division I down to the high school ranks, the organization set an all-time high with 764 teams being honored across all divisions in the 23rd year of the award.

The Bears kick off the 2016 season on August 26 against UTRGV, hosting the Baylor Invitational in Waco.
