BYDGOSZCZ, Poland - With a strong showing in the semifinal round, Baylor track and field’s Wil London advanced to the 400-meter finals at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Zawisza Stadium Thursday.
Running in the third and final semifinal, the Waco, Texas, native took second to be one of two automatic qualifiers out of that heat with a time of 45.49. London’s reaction time (.144) and his overall mark were third-best on the day out of 23 competitors.
OTHER NOTABLES
- BU signee Aaliyah Miller claimed the first medal at the event for any of the Baylor-affiliated runners as she earned a silver for Team USA in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.06. The soon-to-be freshman in Waco closed strong to get out of a boxed-in situation and finished just .07 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
WHAT’S NEXT
On Friday at the meet, London will run in the finals of the 400 meters at 7:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. CT).
Baylor freshman Taylor Bennett will also run in the first round of the 200 meters at 12 p.m. (5 a.m. CT). She is slated to be a part of Team USA’s 4x100-meter relay as well, which has first round action on Friday at 6 p.m. (11 a.m. CT).
