A community gathered in Killeen Friday night to mourn the recent lives lost and to remind each other to spread the message of love.
At 7 p.m. a candlelight vigil was held at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist church to pray for the families of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and the fallen Dallas Police officers.
Pastor Wesley Pope Senior said he wanted his community and those behind the badge to know that they are safe.
"I want people to walk away feeling unified. that they can stand beside their police officers," Pope said. "That the officers can feel safe in their community. That they're doing their job and they don't have that worry of what retaliation there is going to be because of what's taken place in other cities"
Mayor Jose Segarra was there along with several community leaders who urged attendees to educate their children on peace and understanding.
Pastor Pope said he plans to have events to improve relations with local police in the near future.
