Temple police officers flip burgers for the public

Posted

The Temple Police Department held their 1st annual Burgers with the Badges event at the Santa Fe Depot on Friday.

Employees and volunteers served hotdogs and burgers to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event was planned by public information officer Shawana Neely when Chief Floyd Mitchell took over the department last year.

"We talked about ways to reach out to the community in a non law enforcement type setting," Chief Mitchell said. "To communicate and just sit down and talk about different issues that affect us and the community."

Hundreds of people waited in line and sat with officers throughout the day.

The crime scene van, unmarked cars and other vehicles were on hand for the public to tour.

Chief Mitchell said the Department will hold more community events this year.
