KOHLER, Wis. – Baylor men’s golf is tied for seventh place after Monday’s first round at the NCAA Kohler (Wis.) Regional. The Bears shot 4-over 292 in the first round and are three strokes back of the top five, which is the cut to advance to the NCAA Championship.
Baylor (+4) trails Florida (-5), Idaho (-5), Florida State (-4), Kent State (E), Illinois (+1) and South Dakota State (+2). The Bears are tied with Arkansas (+4) and in front of UCLA (+6), Penn State (+6), East Tennessee State (+7), Campbell (+9) and Memphis (+10).
Hunter Shattuck and Matthew Perrine both shot even-par 72 to tie for 16th place. Andreas Gjesteby, Freddy Andersen and Braden Bailey all shot 2-over 74 to tie for 41st place in the 75-player field. Shattuck and Perrine made four birdies apiece to tie for the team lead, while Andersen recovered from a 4-over front-nine to record four birdies on the back-nine and finish at 2-over. Gjesteby and Bailey made two birdies apiece.
The Bears started on the 10th tee and were 1-under as a team with two holes remaining, but three bogeys and a double bogey on the par-3 eighth hole dropped them to 4-over. The eighth hole played as the toughest on the day with a 3.56 average and only two birdies. All five Bears rebounded to make par on the ninth and final hole.

- Baylor is tied for fourth in par-5 scoring average at 6-under 4.70, tied for fifth in par-4 scoring average at 5-over 4.10 and 10th in par-3 scoring average at 7-over 3.35.
- Baylor is tied for third in the 13-team field with 55 pars and ranks seventh with 16 birdies.
- Matthew Perrine and Hunter Shattuck are tied for ninth in par-5 scoring average at 2-under 4.50.
- Shattuck leads the team and is tied for 16th in par-4 scoring average at even-par 4.00.
- Braden Bailey is tied for eighth with 13 pars made.
- Freddy Andersen, Shattuck and Perrine are tied for 14th with four birdies made.
- Perrine and Shattuck both recorded their eighth rounds of par or better this season.
