Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed two players on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s (NFCA) All-West Region Teams announced on Monday (May 16th). The Cru had one First Team selection and also placed a player on the All-Region Third Team.
Leah Brown was named to the All-West Region First Team at third base. Brown, a junior from Crawford High School, led UMHB with a .437 batting average and 11 home runs. She added 26 RBI and also topped the Cru with 10 doubles, 59 hits, 102 total bases and 36 runs scored. Brown slugged .756 and started all 41 games for UMHB on the season.
Karley Free was voted to the All-West Region Third Team as an at-large selection. Free, a sophomore first baseman from Henderson High School, was second on the team with a .388 batting average. She added six home runs and a team-high 30 RBI. Free’s on-base percentage of .478 led the Cru and she also had eight doubles and scored 33 runs.
This is the second NFCA All-West Region honor for both players. The Cru softball team finished 20-21 overall and went 16-14 in American Southwest Conference play this season. UMHB advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament and went 1-2 in the postseason.
