Baylor Baseball Falls Short in Attempt to Sweep No. 10 TCU

Posted

WACO, Texas  Baylor baseball fell 7-3 to No. 10 TCU in an attempt to sweep the series on Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.  The Bears (22-26, 8-13) had an early lead but the Horned Frogs (34-14, 12-9) scored late to salvage the finale.

Matt Menard put the Bears on top in the first with a two-out solo home run.  However, TCU answered in the third with a solo homer by Dane Steinhagen.

Both teams then exchanged runs on miscues.  In the fourth, a balk gave TCU a 2-1 lead but two wild pitches in the fifth let Baylor tie the game.

TCU took control of the contest in the seventh, though.  The Horned Frogs scored three runs on three hits with the big damage on a two-run homer by Luken Baker.

BU countered with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh by Steven McLean, but TCU scored two more in the eighth to seal the game.

TCU reliever Durbin Feltman (2-0) earned the win, allowing a run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings.  BU reliever Nick Lewis (1-5) took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.

Baylor finishes the regular season with a four-game road trip, starting with a 6 p.m. CT tilt at UTSA on Tuesday in San Antonio.
