WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball earned an 8-5 win over No. 10 TCU on Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark to claim the series. The Bears (22-25, 8-12) used strong pitching from starter Daniel Castano and timely hitting to take down the Horned Frogs (33-14, 11-9).
With Castano dealing, the BU offense built him a nice seven-run lead. In the third, Matt Menard started the scoring with a two-out RBI double, and Kameron Esthay did the same in the fifth for two more runs for a 3-0 lead.
Baylor then broke the game open in the sixth with four runs. Bissonette started the rally with a two-out single. Richard Cunningham walked, and after a throwing error at third let Steven McLean reach and scored a run, T.J. Raguse hit an RBI double. Menard capped the inning with a two-run double to put BU up 7-0.
After TCU finally got to Castano for two runs in the eighth, Raguse delivered a two-out RBI double in the bottom half to get one run back for an 8-2 lead.
In the ninth, TCU rallied for three runs with one out before BU brought in Troy Montemayor, who struck out his first batter looking and induced a pop up to end the game.
Castano (4-4) earned the win, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in seven-plus innings. Montemayor picked up his 12th save and second in a row with 0.2 perfect frames and one strikeout. TCU starter Mitchell Traver (0-1) took the loss, giving up a run on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts in three innings.
