WACO, Texas - No. 20/21 Baylor softball (39-12) treks west for a four-game road swing, starting with a single matchup with Abilene Christian (21-19) on Wednesday evening at Poly Wells Field in Abilene.
The Wednesday contest will mark just the second time the two clubs have squared off, with Baylor winning the first ever meeting last season, 4-2, in Waco.
Sarah Beth Toben was nearly lights-out, starting the game and only allowing one run on three hits through 6.0 innings of work.
Kendall Potts finished off the game, picking up her first collegiate save.
Shelby Friudenberg’s three-run home run helped lift the Lady Bears to the win, closing out last season’s Baylor Invitational in Waco.
For ACU, the Wildcats have five of the last six, including a win over Baylor’s weekend opponent, Texas Tech.
The Wildcats have not played a team currently in the top 25 this season, with the only games against a ranked opponent coming against then-No. 24 Texas. The Longhorns took both games against ACU.
For Baylor, the Lady Bears have won six in a row, including a weekend sweep of Kansas.
With a no-hitter and career-high 24.0 scoreless inning streak still intact, Heather Stearns is coming off a week of performances that earned her Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for a Big 12-best fourth time this season.
