Baylor Baseball Drops Rubber Match at Kansas State

Posted

MANHATTAN, Kan.  Baylor baseball dropped a 10-4 rubber match at Kansas State on Sunday afternoon at Tointon Stadium.  The Bears (18-22, 5-10) were unable to overcome the Wildcats’ (18-22, 5-10) five-run third and four-run sixth innings.

BU started out on the right foot as Justin Arrington roped a two-run double in the second inning for a 2-0 lead.  However, the lead did not last long as KSU scratched a run in the bottom of the second and dropped five runs on four hits and two walks in the third for a 6-2 lead.

The Bears cut into the deficit in the sixth with back-to-back solo home runs by Matt Menard and T.J. Raguse.  But it was the last time BU was able to score, and the Wildcats countered in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer by Josh Rolette and three-run shot by Steve Serratore to put the game out of reach, 10-4.

KSU starter Corey Fischer (2-3) earned the win, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings.  BU starter Kyle Hill (1-3) took the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits and three walks with one strikeout in 2.1 innings.
