Two men in Leon County led officials on a police chase Tuesday.
The Leon County Sheriff’s office responded to a reported burglary north of Smith’s Crossing. Upon arrival, deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle and alerted dispatch to pull it over.
The car drove off at a high rate with the responding trooper following behind.
The suspect in the vehicle was believed to fire off several rounds at the patrol cars while fleeing on south bound I-45.
One trooper returned fire at the vehicle, and the suspect threw a weapon out the car window.
The vehicle wrecked out on a median in Madison County, and the driver was taken into the trooper’s custody.
Investigators recovered several items from the vehicle, including firearms that were believed to be stolen.
19-year-old Mathew Burkett is being charged with burglary of a habitation and attempted capital murder and is being held on a $1.3 million bond.
45-year-old Harold Morrison is being charged with burglary of a habitation, evading arrest/detention with a motor vehicle and attempted capital murder. He is being held on a $1.35 million bond.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
