COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Brigham Hill was named to the initial watch list for the 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Hill enters Friday night’s showdown with Alabama with a 5-0 record, one save and a 1.59 ERA in 16 outings, including five starts. He is holding opponents to a .233 batting average and has 46 strikeouts in 51.0 innings of work. His 1.59 ERA leads the SEC.
The right-hander has been equally impressive as a starter and a reliever. In five starts, Hill is 3-0 with a 1.52 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. In 11 relief appearances, he is 2-0 with one save, a 1.69 ERA, 15 strikeouts and a 0.98 WHIP over 21.1 innings.
In SEC games, Hill is 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 23.0 innings. He picked up wins in his only two league starts, victories each of the last Friday’s against Georgia and Mississippi State.
The award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock as part of the annual Night of Champions event.
