ARDMORE, Okla. – Sunday’s final round at The Maxwell Intercollegiate was cancelled due to heavy rain, and Baylor finished in second place with a final score of 8-under-par 552. The Bears were five strokes back of tournament winner Texas (-13).
Hunter Shattuck recorded his career-best finish with a tie for second place at 4-under-par 136. His previous best finish was a tie for 10th place at the All-American Intercollegiate in February. Shattuck’s back-to-back rounds of 2-under 68 gave him his career-best 36-hole score at 136.
Frederik Andersen and Braden Bailey tied for seventh place at 2-under-par 138. It was Andersen’s fourth top-10 finish of the season and the team-high fifth top-10 finish for Bailey, who has now placed eighth or better in four of his last five events.
Andreas Gjesteby earned his seventh top-25 finish of the year by tying for 16th place at even-par 140, and Matthew Perrine tied for 52nd place at 7-over 147. Two Baylor players participated as individuals at The Maxwell – Garrett May tied for 28th place at 3-over 143, and Andrew Hans tied for 37th place at 4-over 144.
Texas (-13) won the tournament by five strokes. Baylor (-8) finished second, followed by New Mexico (-6) and Oklahoma State (-6) tied for third and Memphis (-3) rounding out the top five. Tournament-host Oklahoma (+3) took sixth place, followed by Houston (+13), Augusta (+16), East Carolina (+20), Colorado (+27) and Tulsa (+31).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor has now finished among the top-five teams in six of seven spring tournaments, including four top-three finishes.
- BU finished below par as a team for the third time this season, all within the last five tournaments. The Bears finished in third place at 5-under at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate and won the Border Olympics at 20-under.
- The consecutive rounds of 276 were the second-best rounds for Baylor this season. The only better team score was a first-round 275 at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate.
- Baylor tied for second in par-3 scoring at 8-over 3.20.
- The Bears placed second in par-5 scoring at 7-under 4.65.
- BU finished fourth in par-4 scoring at 2-under 3.98.
- Baylor made 35 birdies, third-most in the 11-team field.
- Hunter Shattuck led the field in par-5 scoring at 4-under 4.00.
- Shattuck tied for third in par-3 scoring at 1-under 2.88.
- Frederik Andersen tied for fourth in par-4 scoring at 3-under 3.88.
- Andersen recorded 10 birdies, tying for the tournament lead.
- Garrett May made nine birdies to tie for third-most in the field.
- Braden Bailey recorded 26 pars to tie for fifth-most in the field.
