WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball fell 10-7 to Oklahoma State in the first of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (17-18, 4-7) were unable to overcome the Cowboys’ (21-13, 6-5) six-run sixth inning to claim the series.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Baylor got a run back on a Matt Menard leadoff single, Justin Arrington sacrifice bunt and Richard Cunningham two-out RBI double.
In the fourth, the Bears tied it up with help from Cunningham again. Aaron Dodson and Menard led off with singles, and after a one-out walk by Josh Bissonette to load the bases, Cunningham grounded out to first to score Dodson and tie the game, 2-2.
An inning later, Steve McLean led off with a single for Baylor, moved to second on an out and scored on an error at third base off the bat of Darryn Sheppard to give BU a 3-2 lead.
However, OSU responded with a huge sixth inning, scoring six runs on five hits and two walks. Then the Cowboys added a two-run homer by Colin Simpson in the seventh for a 10-3 lead. BU added four runs in the ninth on an RBI ground out by Kameron Esthay and three-run homer by Darryn Sheppard but it wasn’t enough to keep the rally going for a comeback.
OSU starter Trey Cobb (4-5) earned the win, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk with 12 strikeouts in eight innings. BU starter Drew Tolson (4-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
