Baylor Women's Tennis Gets Two Wins Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff

WACO, Texas – The Baylor women's tennis team (12-12) recorded two 7-0 wins Saturday in a doubleheader against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-22) at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.

The Bears, ranked No. 51 in the nation, defeated the Golden Lions in back-to-back matches that were scheduled to be played at the Hurd Tennis Center, but were forced indoors due to inclement weather.

MATCH #1

In doubles, Gabriela Ferreira and Vanessa Phan teamed up for a 6-0 win on court two. The duo of Kiah Generette and Karina Traxler won 6-1 on court one. With a walkover on court three, the Bears swept all three doubles matches.

Baylor also swept all six singles matches, including a walkover on court six. Gabriela Ferriera finished first, recording a 6-0, 6-0 win on court two. Vanessa Phan also won 6-0, 6-0 on court four. Bryce Shankle recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win on court five and Karina Traxler won 6-0, 6-0 on court three. With a 6-1, 6-0 win by Kiah Generette on court one, the Bears completed the 7-0 sweep over the Golden Lions.

MATCH #2

Again, the Bears swept doubles with two wins and a walkover. Generette and Traxler teamed up again to win 6-0 on court one, and Ferreira and Bryce Shankle got a 6-0 win on court two.

In singles, Ferreira, Phan, Generette, and Traxler each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories. Hadley Young finished out the Bears’ triuph with a 6-2, 6-4 win.

• Baylor is now 12-12 on the season and 9-6 at home.
• Baylor now holds a 2-0 record against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the all-time series.
