Highlassies wallop Hill

The McLennan Highlassies picked up two conference wins with the doubleheader sweep of the Hill Lady Rebels today in Hillsboro.

The Highlassies shut out the Lady Rebels 18-0 in five innings of game one with Kayleigh Williams getting the win in the circle. Williams allowed four hits and recorded six strikeouts in four innings of work.

McLennan jumped out to an early lead, scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning. Dariann Resendez drew a lead-off walk and Marisa Flores singled. Theresa Gonzales followed with a fielder's choice, putting Flores out at second. Victoria Gonzales was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Kayleigh Williams then singled to score Resendez. Makayla Hernandez drew a walk, bringing Theresa Gonzales in to score. Serena Saldivar walked to score Victoria Gonzales. Elizabeth Svinety followed with a grand slam. Resendez scored the final run of the inning with a solo home run.

The Highlassies added a run in the second. Williams singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Saldivar. Saldivar moved to second on a passed ball and Svienty drew a walk. Angelina Camacho followed with a double to score Saldivar. 

Three more runs scored for the Highlassies in the fourth. Saldivar led off with a single. Svienty and Camacho both walked, loading the bases. Resendez singled to score Saldivar. Flores followed with a single to score Svienty and Camacho.

McLennan's final six runs came in the fifth inning. Haley Webre walked and Rachel Ripley doubled. Mikayla Young walked to load the bases. Webre scored on a fly out by Faith Aguilar. Flores then doubled to score Ripley and Young. Theresa Gonzales followed with a single to score Flores. Victoria Gonzales singled, and Williams singled to score Theresa Gonzales. Webre drew a walk. Ripley then singled to score Victoria Gonzales.

The Highlassies defeated the Lady Rebels 5-3 in the nightcap with Chanlynn Turner getting the win in the circle.

Hill began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first as Alexis Watson doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a fly out by Meagan Kujawa.

McLennan took the lead with two runs in the second. Hernandez was hit by the pitch and Svienty doubled. Hernandez scored on a fly out by Aguilar. Andrea Gonzales drew a walk. Resendez then singled to score Svienty.

The Highlassies added a run in the sixth as Svienty walked, moved to second on a ground out by Aguilar and scored on a single by Andrea Gonzales.

McLennan's final two runs came in the top of the seventh. Theresa Gonzales doubled and scored on a double by Victoria Gonzales. Hernandez singled and Svienty was safe at first on an error, bringing Victoria Gonzales in to score.

Hill rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kayla Arguello singled and was replaced by pinch runner Andrea Sims. Megan Haggard doubled to score Sims. Alexa Ruiz replaced Haggard as the runner at second. Ruiz moved to third on a ground out by Alejandra Garcia and scored on a single by JoJo Schroeder.
