McLennan County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam, with callers impersonating officers.

Parnell McNamara, McLennan County Sheriff, said scammers are calling residents posing as a county deputy. These callers tell potential victims they missed a court date and threaten arrest unless a fine  between $400 and $500 is paid.

Officials say they got reports of this scam a couple weeks ago, at the time the scammers were using a fake Deputy name. According to the Sheriff, dispatch has received an increase in complaints regarding these calls and the scammers are starting to use real last names.

The Sheriff's Office says if contacted by one of these scammers, hang up.
