COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies added left-handed pitcher John Kutac to the class of signees joining the squad for the 2017 season, head coach Rob Childress announced on Tuesday. Kutac is a burly left-handed pitcher from Smithson Valley High School, north of San Antonio.
“We are certainly excited about the addition of John to our 2016 class,” Childress said. “He is a big, strong and athletic left-handed pitcher that has a chance to make a difference right away.”
Kutac was selected All-District 25-6A First Team as a pitcher for his junior campaign. He went 6-2 with a 2.08 ERA and 59 strikeouts in helping Smithson Valley to a regional quarterfinal appearance.
He was an all-district honorable mention as a designated hitter his sophomore season.
This season, Kutac is one of the main cogs for Smithson Valley as the Rangers are off to a 10-2-2 start on the season. He was tabbed as one of the top 10 area players to watch in 2016 by the San Antonio Express News.
Other honors for the southpaw including selection to the Washington Nationals Scout Team and Team Texas in 2015, as well as being named to play in the San Antonio High School All-Star Game as a junior.
The addition of Kutac gives Texas A&M a 14-player class of newcomers for the 2017 campaign.
