The McLennan Highlassies swept today's conference doubleheader with the Vernon Lady Chaparrals in Vernon to remain undefeated in conference play.
The Highlassies run-ruled the Lady Chaparrals 13-0 in game one. Kayleigh Williams picked up the shutout in the circle, recording eight strikeouts and allowing only two hits in five innings.
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the first. Marisa Flores singled, Theresa Gonzales drew a walk and Victoria Gonzales singled to load the bases. Flores scored on a fly out by Kayleigh Williams. Makayla Hernandez then singled to score Theresa Gonzales.
The Highlassies added four runs in the second. Serena Saldivar led off with a triple and Andrea Gonzales was safe at first on an error. Flores was also safe on an error, bringing Saldivar in to score. Theresa Gonzales followed with a double to score Andrea Gonzales and Flores. Victoria Gonzales singled. William then singled to score Theresa Gonzales.
McLennan exploded for five runs in the fourth. Dariann Resendez led off with a home run. Flores drew a walk. Theresa and Victoria Gonzales both singled, loading the bases. Williams followed with a double to clear the bases. Williams moved to third on a single by Hernandez and scored on a fly out by Saldivar.
The final two runs came in the fifth. Mikayla Young walked and Haley Webre singled. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Rachel Ripley. Young scored on a double by Victoria Gonzales. Webre then scored on a fly out by Williams.
Chanlynn Turner picked up the 5-1 win in the circle for the Highlassies in the night cap.
McLennan got on the board with one run in the first as Flores singled, moved to second on a single by Theresa Gonzales, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored as Victoria Gonzales was safe at first on an error.
Vernon tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second. Julia Bagley singled, moved to second on a ground out by Jade Torres, advanced to third on a single by Jamie Herrell and stole home.
The Highlassies sealed the win with four runs in the top of the sixth. Elizabeth Svienty singled, stole second and third, and scored on a single by Faith Aguilar. Resendez was safe on a bunt and Flores singled to score Aguilar. Resendez and Flores then scored on a double by Theresa Gonzales.
