WACO, Texas – The No. 52-ranked Baylor women's tennis team will travel to Indian Wells, Calif. to face No. 48 USC Saturday at 6 p.m. CT as part of the BNP Paribas Collegiate Challenge Presented by Oracle.
The Bears are 5-10 overall and are looking to build off their recent victory over Kansas State. On March 10, Baylor took a 4-1 win over the Wildcats on the road after falling to Kansas to open Big 12 play. The Bears are now 1-1 in Big 12 play.
BU is led by the 17th-ranked duo of Kiah Generette and Blair Shankle.
The Trojans are 6-4 overall on the season, with recent wins over Washington, Washington State, and No. 16 Oklahoma State. On Wednesday, USC defeated the Cowgirls with a 5-2 upset at home.
The USC roster features five ranked singles players, including No. 25 Giuliana Olmos, No. 90 Gabby Smith, No. 101 Madison Westby, No. 111 Rianna Valdes, and No. 125 Jessica Failla. In doubles, Smith and Olmos hold the No. 8 spot, and Smith and Failla hold the No. 53 spot.
In the all-time series record, Baylor and USC sit at an even 2-2. In their most recent matchup last May, the Trojans defeated the Bears 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.
After this weekend’s action, the Bears will return home to host a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M and Northwestern. Baylor will face PVAMU at 10 a.m. and Northwestern at 5 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.
