WACO, Texas (AP) - Fifth-ranked Baylor got the expected lopsided victories and big offensive numbers in its first two games.

The two-time defending Big 12 champion Bears just haven't been putting away non-conference opponents as quickly as they did the past two seasons.

Coach Art Briles says the Bears have to make sure they're still the hunter and keeping their edge. He says he lost his edge a bit, and is looking to get it back.

After an open date, Baylor (2-0) plays its final non-conference game Saturday against Rice (2-1).

The Bears are the nation's best offense again, averaging 754 yards and 61 points a game.

But FCS team Lamar and SMU, a one-win team last season, both stayed close with Baylor until late in the first half.
