UPDATE: Local teen killed in drive-by shooting identified

UPDATE: Police have released the identity of the 16-year-old victim of a suspected drive-by shooting over the weekend in Killeen.

Darrient Lee Grant was a student at Gateway High School in Killeen. Grant was killed when police say the shooter, or shooters, drove slowly past the house and began shooting.

Police are still investigating, and have no suspects in custody at this time.


A local teenager is dead after an overnight drive-by shooting Sunday in Killeen.

Officers responded to the 4200 block of Tidal Wave Drive at 1:42 a.m., on Sunday, after receiving several 911 calls of shots being fired.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was unconscious and not breathing.  Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Investigators say preliminary information revealed the suspect, or suspects, drove slowly past the house and began shooting in the direction of the victim.

The body will be sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for an autopsy.

There was a second shooting hours later in another area of Killeen. Police haven't said if the two shootings are connected. Authorities will continue to investigate this shooting.
