SKILLMAN, N.J. – Baylor women's tennis was No. 8 in the last Oracle/ITA team rankings of the 2015 campaign, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday.
The Bears compiled a 28-7 record and made the NCAA Championship quarterfinals for the first time since 2011. BU earned a top-20 ranking for an 11th-straight season. It was the team's highest ranking since being No. 6 in 2011 and it marked the sixth-time that BU had finished in the end-of-year top-10.
The Lady Bears were the highest ranked Big 12 team to end the season for the eighth time in the last 10 years.
During the 2015 season, the Lady Bears won both the Big 12 regular season and championship titles, giving them 19 conference crowns.
Baylor scored 66.62 points in the computer-based rankings, which was 5.36 points behind No. 7 California and 1.12 points ahead of No. 9 Virginia.
BU tallied three wins during the season over the final ITA top-10, including No. 5 Georgia and No. 9 Virginia (2). Baylor's seven losses on the season came against No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 USC, No. 3 UCLA, No. 10 Texas A&M (2), No. 13 Michigan and No. 16 Texas Tech.
End-of-the-year singles and doubles rankings will be released by the ITA on June 3.
With the men's team being ranked No. 3, Baylor is one of only five schools nationally to have both of its tennis programs in the end-of-year top-10.
