Texas A&M softball ready for UT-Arlington

COLLEGE STATION, TX — Texas A&M Softball plays host to UT Arlington in its final tune-up before entering conference play Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Davis Diamond.

The Aggies are looking to extend its winning streak to six game after sweeping the Texas A&M Invite against Lamar, Longwood and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Payton McBride led the way for Texas A&M as the junior went 4-for-7 at the plate with a pair of doubles, seven RBI and five walks. Kelbi Fortenberry recorded 10 hits, six RBI, three doubles and five stolen bases, and extended her hitting streak to 10 games and on-base streak to 12 games.

Hannah Mayo tallied her first two career victories as the redshirt freshman struck out 10 in 12.0 innings while only allowing 10 hits. Kayla Poynter threw 7.2 innings and fanned a career-high 10 batters against Lamar, while only allowing one hit.

For the season, the Aggies are led offensively by Fortenberry and McBride, who top the team with .459 and .415 batting averages, respectively. Riley Sartain leads the team in multiple offensive categories, including home runs (5), doubles (6), walks (11), on-base percentage (.552) and slugging percentage (.816).

In the circle, McBride paces the pitching staff with seven wins, which ranks fifth in the SEC and 30th nationally. Kendall Potts has added three victories as Kayla Poynter and Hannah Mayo have recorded two.

In a series that dates back to 1980, Texas A&M and UT Arlington face off for the 84th time in history. Wednesday's contest marks the first time the two teams have faced each other since Feb. 19, 2011, in which the Aggies won 4-0.
