Texas A&M opens NCAA Norman Regional Monday

NORMAN, OK — The No. 14-seed Texas A&M women’s golf team opens their 19th straight postseason appearance at the NCAA Norman Regional, starting Monday, May 6 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The Aggies look to qualify for the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2015.

Texas A&M is one of 18 teams in the field at the Norman Regional, which includes Texas, Wake Forest, Florida, Arizona State, Oklahoma, TCU, Pepperdine, Purdue, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, NC State, UTSA, UNC Wilmington, Sam Houston State, and Fairleigh Dickinson. The top six teams after 54 holes of stroke play advance to the NCAA Championship.

Sophomore Amber Park leads the Aggie lineup. Park comes into the event with a team-best 73.29 stroke average, and earned SEC Golfer of the Week on March 6. She ranks fifth at Texas A&M with a 73.88 career stroke average, and finished 15th at last season’s NCAA Austin Regional.

Junior Courtney Dow makes her third-straight appearance at NCAA Regionals. She posted a career-best 73.58 average this season and won the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kane'ohe, Hawai'i, for her first career win.

Sophomore Ava Schwienteck enters the event with a 74.29 scoring average, and posted four top-25 finishes this season. She has a team-leading 73.18 stroke average in final rounds, and leads the team with a 4.94 average on par-5s.

Brooke Tyree ranks sixth on Texas A&M’s all-time freshman scoring list with 75.03 strokes per round this season. Redshirt senior Chloe Velasco makes her fifth appearance of the season, and her first career appearance at NCAA Regionals takes place on the par 72 / 6,407 yard course.

First-year Texas A&M head coach Andrea Gaston is looking to extend her streak to 22 consecutive years with a team advancing to the NCAA Championship.
