SAN JOSE DEL CABO — The No. 19 Texas A&M men’s golf team sits in ninth after day one of the Cabo Collegiate at the Querencia Golf Club. The Aggies shot 8-over 292 in round one, but will look to make adjustments on the unfamiliar course and bounce back as play continues Monday morning.

“It was a tough day for us today. These guys have a lot of pride, but we started missing some fairways and hit the ball in the desert and you’re just not going to recover from that,” said head coach J.T. Higgins. “It’s a different experience for us out here, it’s really fast and firm so the ball is rolling out and we haven’t seen that a lot in Texas through the fall and winter. Balls aren’t ending up where we think they’re going to and we just didn’t adapt very well. I’m really proud of Chandler [Phillips], he had a terrific round today. Everyone fought hard, but overall we obviously aren’t where we want to be. The good thing is, we have two more rounds to right the ship.”

Senior Chandler Phillips led the Aggies individually, shooting 3-under on the day to be tied for fifth after the opening round.

The Aggies will return to action Monday, March 4, for the second round of the Cabo Collegiate. Play will begin at 10 a.m. CT. Follow along here [results.golfstat.com] for results.
