No. 22 Texas A&M opens conference play with home series against No. 2 Vanderbilt

COLLEGE STATION, TX — The No. 22 Texas A&M Aggies open SEC play with a three-game series against the No. 2 Vanderbilt Commodores starting Friday on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. The games are slated for 6:32 p.m., 2:02 p.m., and 1:02 p.m.

Every game of the series is available for viewing on SEC Network + with Will Johnson, Mark Johnson and Boomer White on the call. SEC Network + provides digital-only events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). All three games will air on the radio locally. Friday’s game will be exclusively on SportsRadio 1550 AM. Saturday and Sunday are on SportsRadio 1150 and/or 102.7 The Zone with Dave South and Scott Clendenin on the call.

The Aggies begin their seventh year of SEC play, posting a 94-83 mark in league play over the span.

Vanderbilt enters the fray ranked No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 1in the rankings published by Baseball America, D1Baseball.com and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The Maroon & White and Vanderbilt have met 16 time previously, with the Aggies holding the all-time series edge, 9-7. The last meeting came in the first game of the 2018 SEC tournament with Texas A&M registering a 3-1 victory. The last time Vanderbilt visited Blue Bell Park, Kyle Simonds pitched a no-hitter for the Aggies in a 3-0 victory on May 7, 2016.

Texas A&M and Vanderbilt are two of only four schools to appear in each of the last 12 NCAA Division I Baseball Championships. The Maroon & White’s 12-season NCAA postseason string is the second-longest in the SEC trailing only Vanderbilt (13 years). It’s also the longest active string among Texas schools. Florida State (41) and Cal State Fullerton (27) are the other two schools.

The Aggies rank in the top 10 in the nation in numerous pitching categories, including K-to-BB Ratio (3rd - 4.51), WHIP (4th - 1.00), Walks Allowed Per Nine Innings (5th - 2.52), ERA (7th - 2.25), Strikeouts Per Nine Innings (7th - 11.4) and Shutouts (8th - 3).

Individually, John Doxakis ranks 7th in the nation K-to-BB Ratio (17.00), 17th in Walks Allowed Per Nine Innings (0.72), 22nd in WHIP (0.68) and 25th in Strikeouts (34).

Asa Lacy ranks 9th in the nation in ERA (0.38), 10th in Hits Allowed Per Nine Innings (3.38) and 13th in Strikeouts (37).
