Aggies slug way to 14-2 win over Gonzaga

COLLEGE STATION, TX — The No. 22 Texas A&M Aggies pounded out 15 hits, including a season-high three home runs, to cruise to a 14-2 win over the Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday afternoon on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

Texas A&M continued their emergence at the plate. The Aggies’ 15 hit-performance marked the fourth straight game in which they recorded double-digit hits. Texas A&M had 10 different players tally at least hit while five Aggies recorded multiple hits.

Bryce Blaum and Braden Shewmake paced the Maroon & White offense. Blaum batted 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. He leadoff the game with a home run for the third time this season. Shewmake hit 2-for-3 with one run, one double and three RBI. Jonathan Ducoff slugged a three-run home run in the sixth for his first dinger as an Aggie while Ty Coleman hit a grand slam in the eighth.

Aggie hitters were 17-for-22 when having the opportunity to advance runners and batted 9-for-17 with runners on base and 7-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

Texas A&M threw the southpaw combination of Asa Lacy and Dustin Saenz at the Bulldogs. Lacy (4-0) picked up the win, yielding one unearned run on three hits and two walks while fanning seven in 6.0 innings. Saenz earned his first save of the season, throwing 3.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out two.

The Aggies improve their record to 14-3, and the Bulldogs fall to 5-7.
