COLLEGE STATION, TX — Texas A&M had its best finish of the 2018-19 season, finishing tied for fifth at the Icon Invitational after Tuesday’s final round. All five Aggies in the lineup finished in the top half of the field.

“We got off to a great start,” said Texas A&M head coach Andrea Gaston. “We had 15 birdies today, which is right there up there with some of the better teams in this tournament, so I’m certainly pleased to see us play a little more aggressively and have those opportunities for birdie. We just have to eliminate some of the bigger numbers and we’ll keep moving on up.”

Texas A&M got as close to within a stroke of the team lead during Tuesday’s round, tying for fifth at 19-over par. Host institution Houston won the event at 8-over par. Alice Hewson of Clemson won the individual portion of the event at 9-under 207.

Freshman Katie Finley had the Aggies’ best scorecard in the third round, taking 71 shots to get around the par 72 / 6,392 yard Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club. It is her fourth career round of par-or-better, and led to her first career top-25 finish, tying for 19th at 5-over par.

Sophomore Amber Park put the finishing touches on a second-round 2-under 70 Tuesday morning in the resumption of a round suspended due to darkness. Park tied Finley for the Aggies’ best finish of the event, finishing 19th at 5-over 221.

Junior Courtney Dow shot a 3-over 75 Tuesday, finishing tied for 24th at 6-over par, her third top-25 finish of the season. Freshman Brooke Tyree tied for 30th at 8-over after a 3-over 75 in the third round. Sophomore Ava Schwienteck birdied three of her first five holes on the way to turn in a 1-over 73, and tie for 37thplace at 9-over.

The Aggies return to action on Saturday, March 2, hosting Texas State in a match-play event.
