Aggie baseball sweeps Kentucky

LEXINGTON, KY — No. 18 Texas A&M pounded out 19 hits and the bullpen weaved together 8.1 innings of work as the Aggies completed the three-game series sweep of the Kentucky Wildcats with a 17-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park.

The Maroon & White had seven different players register multiple hits and every Aggie starter scored a run, including seven players registering multiple runs, as Texas A&M offered no quarter to the Wildcat pitching staff.

Braden Shewmake was 5-for-6 at the plate with one double, two runs and two RBI. He finished the weekend 10-for-16 with five runs, one double, two home runs and nine RBI. Jonathan Ducoff batted 3-for-5 with one walk, one double, two runs and two RBI. Bryce Blaum was 2-for-5 with one double, one triple, one walk, three runs and two RBI. Mikey Hoehner logged four RBI.

Joseph Menefee (2-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen. He scattered one hit, two walks and one hit batsman while striking out three in 3.1 scoreless innings. Aggie starter Christian Roa was unable to get out of the first inning. He yielded two runs on two hits, two walks and one hit batter over 0.2 of an inning. Bryce Miller struck out seven of the 11 batters he faced in 3.0 blank frames to earn his first career save.
