COLLEGE STATION, TX — No. 14 and fourth-seeded Texas A&M won in the NCAA First Round for the fourth straight season, defeating Wright State 84-61 Friday afternoon at Reed Arena.

Chennedy Carter led Texas A&M (25-7) with 27 points off 8-of-19 shooting from the field and an 8-of-11 mark from the line in her first game back from a fractured finger. Carter has scored 20+ points in each of her last six games and at least 26 points in all four of her career NCAA Tournament games.

Kayla Wells added 17 points, with Ciera Johnson adding 15 and N’dea Jones chipping in 11—all three setting career-highs for an NCAA Tournament game. Shambria Washington had an all-around game, scoring six points with nine rebounds and seven assists.

No. 13-seed Wright State (27-7) was led by Angel Baker with 15 points.

The win was Texas A&M’s largest in an NCAA Tournament game since the 2013 First Round, and ran the Aggies’ all-time record to 13-3 overall and 6-0 at home in NCAA First Round games.

The Aggies raced out to a 31-13 lead after a quarter, and never trailed in the game. The Aggies shot 47.1% from beyond the arc, making a season-high eight 3-pointers in the game.

The Aggies continue to the NCAA Second Round, to face No. 5-seed Marquette Sunday at Reed Arena.
