COLLEGE STATION, TX — No. 19 Texas A&M looks to secure a season-sweep of No. 11 Kentucky, and a third top-15 win of the season Thursday in a women’s basketball game at Memorial Coliseum.

In the teams’ first matchup, Texas A&M (21-6, 10-4 SEC) held on for a 73-71 victory on Jan. 27, as the then-No. 15 Wildcats closed an eight-point margin to a single point in the last two minutes of the game. Chennedy Carter and Kayla Wells each added 20 points in a game that Aggies led wire-to-wire.
Texas A&M is coming off of back-to-back wins over at least 17 points, and 20+ point performances from Carter and Wells each time. Wells had a career-high 29 points in the Aggies’ Feb. 21 win over Tennessee, then had a team-high 24 at Florida Monday. Carter added 28 and 21 respectively.
“It’s fun to play in games like this,” said Wells of Thursday’s matchup. “This is the type of game that players like me and my teammates live for. We’re going to prepare and go out there and play hard.”
Freshman Rhyne Howard leads Kentucky (23-5, 10-4 SEC) in scoring (16.7) and rebounding (6.7), but the focus Thursday is on senior guards Maci Morris (15.6 ppg) and Taylor Murray (12.9), playing their last regular season home game.
With a victory or some help Thursday, the Aggies can secure one of the top-four seeds and a coveted double-bye in the upcoming Southeastern Conference Tournament, held March 6-10 in Greenville, S.C. A victory over Kentucky clinches the No. 3-seed in the tournament or a Missouri loss to Arkansas clinches a top-four spot regardless of the Aggies’ result.
