WACO, TX — For the first time, Ridgewood Country Club in Waco is hosting the Texas Super Senior Amateur Championship.

"Before this, we didn't have a championship for the Super Seniors. We had a championship for the seniors, but we didn't have one for this age division," Chris Untiedt, the tournament director, said.

The division is split into two age groups. Super Seniors are men 65-74 years of age. Men 75+ are Legends.

Throughout the week, 70 players will play a total of 54 holes, or three rounds.

The players range from former professionals to men who just love to play the game everyday at their member clubs.

But, what makes this tournament unique is that is provides the players a chance to play people their own age.

"We've got a couple senior tournaments on our calendar, but to be eligible for the senior it's 55 and older. So, having these guys compete against their own age group, and not compete against guys that are younger than them, hitting farther," Untiedt added. "And it's good that we've added this net portion this year because it gives those players that don't necessarily have a chance, with a higher handicap, to win the overall gross, they do have that net championship that they can play toward and get a trophy and some merchandise."

KXXV Sports will be featuring a few players as the tournament continues.
