Mexia's playoff game with Sunnyvale has been canceled after a student athlete tested positive for COVID-19.
The Mexia Blackcats said Friday's Area Round (2nd round) playoff game with Sunnyvale was canceled due to a positive case of a student athlete.
Mexia ISD said they were notified today that a male student athlete tested positive for COVID-19.
The athlete participated in Friday's playoff game and was within six feet without a mask around the football team and coaches. Their opponent from Friday has been notified about possible exposure.
Since exposed players and coaches must quarantine for 14 days, they cannot compete against Sunnyvale.
Mexia High School will be open for instruction on Monday, the district said.
Mexia's season comes to an end at 6-4.
