UMHB Women's Cross Country picked sixth in ASC Preseason Poll

BELTON, TX — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s cross country team has been picked to finish sixth in the American Southwest Conference in the league’s first Preseason Coaches Poll. The UMHB women will be competing for just the second time since the school reinstated the sport in 2018.

The Cru totaled 70 points in balloting of ASC head coaches as the pick to finish sixth. McMurry University was picked to win the conference with 109 total points and three first-place votes. The War Hawks edged out defending conference champion Hardin-Simmons after the Cowgirls claimed five first-place votes and 108 total points. UT Dallas is picked third with 98 total points and the other three first-place votes. East Texas Baptist took fourth with 83 total points and LeTourneau University rounds out the top five with 81 total points. Concordia Texas is picked seventh with 60 points, Ozarks totaled 44 points for eighth, Sul Ross State comes in at #9 with 27 points, Belhaven University is picked 10th with 25 points and Louisiana College rounds out the poll with 21 total points.

UMHB senior Kelly Huckabee was named to the ASC Preseason Runners to Watch list after helping lead the Cru to a sixth-place finish in last year’s conference meet. Huckabee is one of nine returning letter winners for Head Coach Alex Aldaco this season. UMHB will open the season Friday, August 30th, with a dual meet against Concordia Texas in Round Rock.
