UMHB softball places nine on All-ASC teams

BELTON, TX — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed nine athletes on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference teams, released Tuesday. The Cru had five Second Team selections, three Third Team honorees and one Honorable Mention.

Seniors Emily Bound and Kourtney Cummings, junior Avery Kelly, sophomore Allie Dalle and freshman Kathryn Reed were all named Second Team All-ASC. Bounds, a catcher from Moody, Texas (Moody H.S.), ranked fourth among all ASC players with 53 hits on the season. She started all 44 games at catcher for the Cru, spearheading a UMHB defense that caught 20 baserunners stealing. Bounds added 14 runs and 19 RBI in her senior campaign, slamming six extra-base hits and fielding .996 on the season. Cummings, a right fielder from Grandview, Texas (Grandview H.S.), ranked ninth among all ASC hitters with 50 hits on the season. She finished the season ranked third in the conference with 15 doubles, leading the Cru in runs scored (25), doubles, triples (2) and total bases (75). Kelly, a third baseman from Georgetown, Texas (Georgetown H.S.), slugged .536 in her junior campaign. She led the Cru in RBI (29) and home runs (7), adding 23 runs, 39 hits and 67 total bases. A sophomore utility player from Austin, Texas (Lake Travis H.S.), Dalle ranked sixth in the ASC with 12 doubles on the season. She led the Cru in batting average (.388), slug percentage (.663) and base percentage (.450). Dalle scored 24 runs, hit in 24 and added five home runs on the season. Reed, a freshman pitcher from Axtell, Texas (Axtell H.S.), recorded 15 wins in the circle for UMHB. She pitched 118 innings with nine complete games and seven shutouts. Reed ranked third in the ASC in wins and ERA (2.14), fifth in opposing batting average (.231) and sixth in inning pitched and batters struck out (90).

Kasi Cummings, Hannah Wolfe and Bayleigh Grogan were all named Third Team All-ASC. Cummings, a senior second baseman from Grandview, Texas (Grandview H.S.), ranked second in the ASC in sacrifice bunts (12) and third in double plays (10). She hit .325 on the season, scoring 24 runs with 40 hits and 17 RBI. Wolfe, a junior first baseman from Robinson, Texas (Robinson H.S.), led the conference in chances (340), putouts (325) and double plays. She hit .316 in 2019, scoring 19 runs with 42 hits and 20 RBI. Grogan, a freshman pitcher from Wimberley, Texas (Wimberley H.S.), ranked ninth in the ASC with a 2.77 ERA. Grogan pitched 111.1 innings for the Cru this season, striking out 60 batters with nine wins and eight complete games.

Alexis Galvan rounded out the Cru’s All-ASC selections, earning Honorable Mention in her freshman campaign. Galvan started in 39 games for the Cru, hitting .310 with 31 hits and 19 RBI. She scored nine runs for the Cru this season, slamming six doubles and recording 30 putouts as an outfielder.

This is the third all-conference award for Kourtney Cummings, second for Bounds, Kasi Cummings, Kelly and Wolfe and first for freshmen Galvan, Grogan and Reed. UMHB finished the 2019 season with a 28-16 overall record and 21-6 mark in ASC play. The Cru also earned the Runner Up title at the 2019 ASC Softball Championship Tournament.
