BELTON, TX — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team gave up a six-run second inning and the Cru never recovered in a 13-1 loss to sixth-ranked Texas Lutheran Tuesday night in Belton. UMHB drops to 4-16 on the season with the loss. The Bulldogs improve to 13-5 on the year with the victory.

Both teams went in order in the first inning before Texas Lutheran broke through with six runs in the second inning. Joe Jimenez and Blade Strzelczyk both had two-run doubles in that frame. Malek Bolin led off the bottom of the second with a home run to pull the Cru to within 6-1. The Bulldogs then added two runs in the third, three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take control of the game.

The Cru used ten pitchers in the contest with Zach Godin taking the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season. Seven pitchers combined on a three-hitter for TLU with Matthew Hickey getting the win to raise his record to 3-0 on the year. Bolin, Dawson Shibley and Devon Patterson had the UMHB hits. Three different players had two hits for the Bulldogs and Strzelczyk drove in four runs and scored three more for Texas Lutheran.

UMHB returns to American Southwest Conference play with a three-game home series against Sul Ross State later this week. The two teams open that series with a 4 pm doubleheader on Thursday. The series will wrap up with a 2 pm single game on Friday.
