MCC Highlassies and Hill split doubleheader

WEST, TX — The McLennan Highlassies and Hill Lady Rebels split today’s conference doubleheader played at West High School.

McLennan got the 10-1 run-rule victory over Hill in game one with Emily Klanika getting the win in the circle.

The Highlassies began the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. Kaelin Morkisch singled and stole second, and Sophie Wideman drew a walk. Emeri Eubanks followed with a double to score Morkisch.

McLennan added a run in the second. Rebeca Fajardo singled and Charley Avery was safe on an error, allowing Fajardo to score.

Three more McLennan runs scored in the third. Kaitlin Richards and Wideman both singled. Richards then stole third and scored on a single by Eubanks. Wideman and Eubanks both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Arianna Perales and scored on a triple by Fajardo.

Hill’s only run came in the top of the fifth. Madison Forrester was hit by the pitch, and Briana Cantu and Olivia Larue both walked, loading the bases. Carson Solis also walked, bringing Forrester in to score.

The Highlassies added three more runs in the fifth. Wideman was hit by the pitch and scored on Eubanks’ home run. Perales walked and was replaced by pinch runner Genisa Marrero-Carter. Marrero-Carter then stole second and scored on a Hill error.

McLennan sealed the run rule with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Olivia Lantigua singled and was replaced by pinch runner Destiny Sanchez. Sanchez moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Richards and scored on Wideman’s home run.

Hill took game two 5-3 with Destiny Guerra takin the loss in the circle.

McLennan scored one in the bottom of the first. Lantigua singled and Richards drew a walk. Eubanks then singled to score Lantigua.

Hill took the lead with two runs in the top of the second. Solis walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Jennifer Stanley was hit by the pitch, and Hailee Carroll singled to score Solis. A fielder’s choice by Alex Rodriguez put Carroll out at second, and a fielder’s choice by Eryn Carter put Stanley out at the plate. Cantu walked to load the bases. Forrester also walked, bringing Rodriguez in to score.

The Highlassies tied the game with a run in the bottom of the second. Avery walked and Morkisch singled. Lantigua then singled to score Avery.

The Lady Rebels scored a run in the top of the third to take the lead again. Larue was hit by the pitch but was out at second on a fielder’s choice by Solis. Stanley drew a walk, and Carroll singled to score Solis.

Two more Rebel runs scored in the fourth as Cantu and Forrester both singled, advanced on a ground out by Shelby Mitchell and scored on a single by Larue.

The Highlassies rounded out the scoring with a run in the fifth as Perales singled and scored on a double by Fajardo.

McLennan returns to action Monday, traveling to Cisco for a single game at 2 p.m.
