Highlassies swept by Temple in doubleheader

WACO, TX — The McLennan Highlassies dropped both games of this afternoon’s doubleheader with the Temple Lady Leopards at Bosque River Ballpark.

Temple took game one 9-2 with Emily Klanika taking the loss in the circle.

The Lady Leopards scored one run in the top of the first. Alyssa Escamilla reached on an error and Tiler Noyola walked. Escamilla was out at third on fielder’s choice by Savanna Parker. Kennedy Jimenez then reached on an error, allowing Noyola to score.

Temple added two runs in the third. Escamilla and Noyola both singled. Escamilla then scored on McLennan error that put Noyola on third. Noyola scored on a ground out by Madilyn Weatherly.

Another Temple run scored in the fifth as Noyola tripled and scored on a ground out by Weatherly.

Temple scored five runs in the top of the seventh. Lenzi Stewart singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Escamilla. Noyola singled, Stewart scored on a passed ball and Weatherly drew a walk. Parker followed with the three-run homer.

McLennan’s two runs came in the bottom of the seventh. Sophie Wideman doubled and scored on a single by Emeri Eubanks. Eubanks then scored on a double by Rebeca Fajardo.

Temple defeated McLennan 12-6 in the nightcap with Destiny Guerra taking the loss.

Temple jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the top of the first inning. Weatherly singled, Parker walked and Jimenez was safe on an error, loading the bases. MacKenzie Purcell followed with a single to score Weatherly. Parker scored on an error and Ava McCoy singled to score Jimenez. Purcell came in to score on a wild pitch and Mercedes Beltran was hit by the pitch. Stewart then singled to score McCoy.

McLennan tied the game with five runs in the bottom of the first. Kaelin Morkisch singled and stole second. Arianna Perales followed with the two-run homer. Wideman doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. Lindy Alexander reached on an error, bringing Wideman in to score. Eubanks tripled to score Alexander, and Fajardo singled to score Eubanks.

The Lady Leopards took the lead with six runs in the second. Noyola and Parker both singled. Noyola scored on an error, Jimenez singled and Purcell walked. Beltran also walked, bringing Parker in to score. Stewart followed with a single to score Jimenez and Purcell. Escamilla tripled to score Beltran and Stewart.

The Highlassies added a run in the bottom of the second as Morkisch reached on an error, moved around to third on a single by Lantigua and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kaitlin Richards.

Temple rounded out the scoring with a run in the top of the sixth. Parker singled and stole second. Purcell then reached on an error, allowing Parker to score.

McLennan returns to action Wednesday, traveling to North Central for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
