Highlassies split doubleheader with Hill

WACO, TX — The McLennan Highlassies and Hill Lady Rebels split this afternoon’s doubleheader on the softball diamond in Hillsboro.

McLennan took game one 10-4 with Emily Klanika getting the win in the circle. Klanika recorded 10 strikeouts in the contest.

McLennan began the scoring with back-to-back home runs by Emeri Eubanks and Rebeca Fajardo in the top of the second.

Hill got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second. Carson Solis singled and Alyx Gray drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a passed ball, and Solis scored on a fielder’s choice by Madison Forrester.

Sophie Wideman added to the McLennan score with a solo shot in the third.

The Lady Rebels scored another run in the bottom of the fourth. Solis walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a fly out by Gray. Angelica Espinosa then singled to score Solis.

McLennan scored four runs in the fifth. Arianna Perales singled but was out at second on a fielder’s choice by Wideman. Wideman moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lindy Alexander. Eubanks followed with the two-run homer. Fajardo walked and Genisa Marrero-Carter singled. Fajardo scored on a scored on a Hill error, and Kaelin Morkisch followed with a single to score Marrero-Carter.

Two more Highlassie runs scored in the sixth. Olivia Lantigua led off with a solo home run. Perales singled and Alexander doubled. Eubanks followed with a single to score Perales.

The final McLennan run came in the top of the seventh. Charley Avery walked and Destiny Sanchez singled. Daniella Hill then singled to score Avery.

Hill rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Forrester and Shelby Kuffel drew back-to-back walks. Briana Cantu singled to load the bases. Forrester was out at third on a double play. Olivia LaRue then reached on an error, allowing Kuffel and Cantu to score.

Hill bounced back to defeat the Highlassies 7-3 in game two. Carla Torres took the loss in the circle.

McLennan scored one run in the top of the first. Morkisch singled and Kaitlin Richards was hit by the pitch. Perales followed with a double to score Morkisch.

The Lady Rebels responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. Kuffel singled and Shelby Mitchell reached on an error. Solis walked to load the bases. Alex Rodriguez followed with the grand slam.

Hill added another run in the bottom of the second. Forrester singled, moved to second on a ground out by Cantu and advanced to third on a single by Kuffel. Forrester then scored on a line out by Mitchell.

Hill scored two more in the bottom of the fifth as LaRue singled and scored on another Rodriguez home run.

The Highlassies added a run in the sixth as Wideman singled and scored on a double by Brooke Arnold.

The final McLennan run came in the seventh. Lantigua led off with a double and moved to third on a fly out by Richards. Lantigua then scored on ground out by Perales.

McLennan returns to action Friday, hosting Temple for a noon doubleheader.
