Cru men's golf finishes sixth in conference

BELTON, TX — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team dropped one spot in the team standings on the final day as the Cru finished just outside of the top five at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Tuesday in Kerrville. The Cru took sixth place in the event, just three strokes out of the fifth spot.

UMHB wrapped up the event with a 313-306-324=943 team total. Concordia Texas won the ASC title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships with a 298-294-300=892. McMurry University claimed second place at 297-307-305=909 and UT Dallas took third place after firing a 302-304-310=916 total. LeTourneau University finished in fourth place after firing 297-314-321=932 and Hardin-Simmons rounded out the top five, just ahead of the Cru with a 317-307-306=940 team score. A nine-team field competed in the tournament.

Parker Love recorded the top individual finish for UMHB by shooting 81-75-79=235 and taking 18th place. Tyler Gonzalez (76-78-82) and Kaden Treybig (77-78-81) both carded 236’s for the Cru and tied for 19th place, Dustin Dingler finished with a 79-77-82=238 to tie for 24th place and Cort Crawley recorded an 83-76-82=241 to tie for 29th place. Concordia’s Ben Balen won individual medalist honors by shooting 71-71-72=214.

The three-day, 54-hole event was played on a par-72, 6,988-yard layout on the Hills and Creek Courses at Comanche Trace Country Club in Kerrville. The tournament closes out the 2018-19 season for the UMHB men and was the final tournament for Crawley, the lone senior on the Cru roster.
