WACO, TX — Following a road win last weekend, Baylor men’s tennis sophomore Sven Lah was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

It is the first time Lah has won a weekly honor in his career and the first time a Bear has been recognized in 2019.

Playing as a ranked singles and doubles player in the same match for the first time in his career, Lah went 2-0 in the team’s 5-2 road victory at No. 34 Tulsa Saturday night and compiled wins at the No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles spots.

The Bears clinched the doubles point with second-ranked Lah and Jimmy Bendeck’s 6-1 win on court one. Then, No. 117 Lah finished with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jarod Hing at the No. 3 singles spot.

Lah’s award is Baylor's 46th Big 12 weekly honor since 2000. Lah is one of 21 different Bears to be recognized in that stretch.

The Bears will stay in Waco to host 11th-ranked Illinois and Purdue Friday and Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center. Both matches are slated for a 6 p.m. start.

Friday’s match against the Illini will be the first Hounds at the Hurd event where fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to the match. Free dog toys and old Baylor tennis balls will be given away while supplies last.
