WACO, TX — The No. 16-ranked Kansas Jayhawks defeated Baylor’s women’s tennis team Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center, 6-1.
The Jayhawks took the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. On the No. 2 court, KU won 6-3 before Baylor knotted the score at one apiece with Livia Kraus and Kris Sorokolet winning on the No. 1 court. In a heartbreaker, Angie Shakhraichuk and Dominika Sujova fell 7-6 (6-2) to their Jayhawks counterparts on the third court.
In singles Kraus, ranked No. 59 in nation, beat KU’s Janet Koch 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. However, that would be the only point of the match for the Bears. Jessica Hinojosa narrowly missed the upset on the No. 1 court as she fell to No. 23 Anastasia Rychagova, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4). Sujova also took her KU counterpart to three sets in a losing effort on the No. 5 court.
KU improved to 11-3 on the season and 2-1 in Big 12 play while Baylor dropped to 5-15 overall and 0-2 in league play.
