LOS ANGELES, CA — Baylor track & field is set to begin the 2019 outdoor campaign Friday and Saturday at the USC Trojan Invitational, which will take place at Cromwell Field & Loker Track Stadium.

“We’re excited to go,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “We have a lot of our veterans coming off the indoor season, and it’s a little different meet for them. Pretty low key. We’ll hold some of them out, but we have a lot of them that are just excited. It’s their first outdoor meet. The javelin throwers and 400m hurdlers – the events that you don’t compete in indoors – those athletes are just ready to go.”

More than 40 Baylor-student athletes will compete in the first outdoor meet of the season, including 2019 indoor All-Americans KC Lightfoot and the men’s 4x400-meter relay.

Field events at the Trojan Invitational will kick off Friday at 2 p.m. CT with the men’s and women’s hammer throw and discus, which will take place at California State University, Northridge. Later on Friday night will be the Distance Carnival at Loker Stadium, featuring the men’s and women’s 3,000-meter steeple as well as the women’s 3,000 meters beginning at 7 p.m. CT.

Saturday will be the bulk of the action, with field events beginning at noon CT and the men’s and women’s 4x100-meter relays kicking off track events at 1 p.m. CT.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what we can do,” Harbour said. “We hope it will be nice weather. We’ve had a good time out here, but just looking forward to getting our first outdoor meet under our belts.

National preseason rankings for the outdoor season are set to come out Monday, March 18. For continued updates on the Baylor Track & Field team, follow the team's social media accounts all season long: @BaylorTrack.
