WACO, TX — After giving up five runs in the top of the first inning, Baylor (13-12) fought back in the final frame but dropped its midweek contest, 8-5, to Central Arkansas.

The Lady Bears got on the board in the bottom of the first after Nicky Dawson led things off with a walk. She has now reached base safely in every game this season. Dawson later scored when Goose McGlaun grounded out to the shortstop.

It was a tag team effort through the first two innings in the circle for Baylor as Madison Lindsey got the start, and Goose McGlaun came on in relief for a short stint before Sidney Holman took over.

The UCA Bears put up goose eggs on the board with Holman in the circle. UCA stranded 13 baserunners as twice the Bears loaded the bases with one out but failed to plate a run in the fourth and fifth innings. UCA also left the bases loaded in the sixth inning.

Baylor scored two more runs in the second. Hannah Smith led off the frame with a single through the left side before she scored off a single up the middle by Lou Gilbert. Alyssa Avalos – who entered as a pinch runner for Kendall Cross – scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

The Lady Bears didn’t score again until the fifth inning when Goose McGlaun launched her first homer of the year at Getterman Stadium over the left field wall.

After retiring the Bears in order in the top of the seventh, Baylor fought in the bottom of the inning. Kassidy Krupit hit a double down the left field line and later scored on a passed ball. Then with two outs, Taylor Ellis hit a double of her own down the left field line.
