ORLANDO, FL — Baylor men’s tennis sophomore Matias Soto advanced from day one of the NCAA Singles Championship Monday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Soto fell behind early after dropping a tight first set, but the Copiapo, Chile native notched a tight second frame and cruised in the third to defeat No. 56 Gui Osorio of San Diego, 5-7, 7-5, 6-0, on court 11.

In the other first round match, No. 9-16 seed and 20th-ranked Johannes Schretter couldn’t overcome a mid-match surge from No. 54 Sam Riffice of Florida and dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision on court two.

He finishes his collegiate career with a 61-30 singles record and collected 24 wins over ranked opponents.
