WACO, TX — No. 4 Baylor equestrian (7-4, 3-1 Big 12) was on the brink of an upset but ultimately fell 11-9 to No. 2 Texas A&M (9-4, 2-4 SEC) Saturday at Willis Family Equestrian Center.
Celebrating Senior Day at the conclusion of the meet, the Bears honored 16 student-athletes.
Texas A&M took a 3-2 lead after equitation over fences, but the Bears stayed close with MOP Madison Day’s 81 on Aiden and Shannon Hogue’s 76 on Petey.
Then, the Bears tied it up with a 3-2 win in reining in the outdoor arena. Carly Salter earned MOP honors with a 70 on Cherry, and Sydney Scheckel’s 68.5 on Polly and Madaline Callaway’s 69 on Penny made it a 5-5 score at the half.
Texas A&M won the meet with a 6-4 second half. Baylor fell in horsemanship, 3-2, despite points from MOP Katie Davis’ 75 on Sweetie and Clara Johnson’s 73.5 on Whiz.
In flat, Baylor fell 3-2 but closed out the meet with points from MOP Madison Day’s 85 on Capistrano and Rachael Davis’ 78 on Palmar.
