SIMI VALLEY, CA — Gary Sinise has been awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor Society Award for his work supporting veterans.

The Patriot Award was given to Sinise at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, according to U.S. Veterans Magazine.

It’s the highest honor given out by the organization, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

The award recognizes those who have contributed significantly to American military services.

The actor, known for his roles as "Lieutenant Dan" in the film "Forrest Gump," established the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2010 in an effort to improve the lives of the country's service men and women.

His band, the Lt. Dan Band, which plays mostly rock’n’ roll and country covers that are favorites among troops, also plays special events for military families.
