WACO, TX — The Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition (HOTHC) announces the launch of Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program projects on October 1, 2020.
After two years of preparing, the HOTHC was one of 8 rural communities in the country selected by HUD to be part of this transformational grant, receiving $2.23 million to develop and implement comprehensive projects and strategies over two years to help people under the age of 25 secure housing.
The YHDP projects happening in the Heart of Texas Region include YHDP Planning Grants 1 & 2 at HOTRMHMR, Youth Dedicated Drop-in Centers (one at The Cove for high-school-aged youth, and one at HOTRMHMR for youth experiencing homelessness ages 18-24), a Heart to Home Youth Navigation Team, Transitional Housing (TH) and Rapid Rehousing (RRH) Plus.
The Youth Dedicated Drop-in Centers are safe spaces for young people who are at risk of experiencing homelessness to help meet their immediate needs.
The Heart to Home Youth Navigation Team is a multidisciplinary, mobile team from HOTRMHMR providing triage to youth who find themselves entering homelessness.
TH will aid youth transitioning into permanent housing with temporary housing for up to 24 months.
RRH allows for a quick transition into permanent housing involving scattered site housing in the community.
